THE MOST VALUABLE NUTRIENT FOR THE BABY: BREAST MILK
The strongest bond between mother and baby is nutrition of the baby with breastfeeding and breast milk. The World Health Organization recommends only breastfeeding the baby for the first 6 months and the suitable supplementary food is to be started from 6th month and breastfeeding is to be maintained until 1.5-2 years-of-age. Do not leave your babies deprived of breast milk that is the most natural and the freshest nutrition. Appreciate the value of mother's milk.
How do you understand whether the baby receives sufficient breast milk?
The most reliable indicator in this regard is that the baby puts on weight sufficiently in routine checks. While evaluating the increase in the first month, note that there will be a little loss before the first 15 days and it will retain its birth weight in approximately 15 days and then it will put on weight. Another indicator is that the baby makes wet its diaper 8-10 times and it poops 2-4 times a day.
What should be nutrition of nursing mothers?
Mother's milk is the most appropriate and natural nutrition sufficient solely for the first 6 months, meeting entire requirement of natural nutrients sufficient for normal development of the baby. When a healthy mother secretes 700-800 milk average on a daily basis, 500-750 kcal supplements should be made to daily energy requirement in nursing period. A sufficient amount of milk should be taken for producing breast milk in sufficient level. Daily taken liquid intake should be approximately 3 liters. As practical amounts, 12 cups of water, sugar-free stewed foods, lemonade, milk and ayran are recommended on daily basis. In addition to this, milk, yoghurt, ayran, kefir as 3 cups in a day should be consumed at all times for calcium requirement.
What kind of issues may be encountered in nursing?
Problems in mouth an palate structure of the baby during nursing, getting used to using feeding bottle and excess milk build-up in the breast of the mother and fullness, mastitis and cracking nipples, abscesses and infections may occur. In such cases, it should be consulted to the doctor. Moreover, it would be useful not to use baby feeding bottle until the baby learn how to suck and gets used to the breasts.
