Renal failure is the dysfunction of kidney and permanent and progressive deterioration of all functions. It is not a reversible condition. Uremia expresses all clinical and biochemical abnormalities caused by chronic renal failure. Losing the functions of kidney introduces a number of health problems. There is almost no system or organ not affected by chronic renal failure.
The most frequent reason of chronic renal failure in our country is the diabetic nephropathy being a complication of diabetes. Moreover, hypertension, nephrite, kidney diseases called as “glomerulonephritis” polycystic kidney disease characterized by multiple cysts in the kidney, interstitial nephritis, kidney stones, structural deformities of urinary tracts, infections and genetic diseases of kidney may lead to chronic renal failure.
Since most of the time there are no clear symptoms, the diagnosis of renal failure is established coincidentally or when the patients visit the doctors for another reasons. Main symptoms include swelling, hypertension, reduction or increase of quantity of urination, frequent urination at nights, blood from urination and color change, lumbar and inguinal pain, itching and yellow color of the skin.
The disease is understood by blood tests for kidney functions, blood pressure measurement, total urinalysis, blood biochemistry, kidney biopsy, immunological tests, scintigraphic and radiological methods. If necessary actions are taken with early diagnosis and treatment, progression of renal failure can be slowed down.
If chronic renal failure is not followed and treated, final stage renal failure will be inevitable. 3 options are applicable for the treatment of renal failure patients. These are hemodialysis, peritoneum dialysis or kidney transplantation. The specialist physicians will make decision about the most correct treatment option by the status of the patient. The best treatment of final stage renal failure and applied to the patients with renal failure widespread is the kidney transplantation. Kidney transplantation is a step taken to a healthy life for the patients maintaining their lives with dialysis due to chronic renal failure.
