Frequent sore infections may result in enlargement of tonsil and adenoid tissues. Obstruction of respiratory tracts due to size, affects respiration adversely. Sore throat, tonsillitis and pharyngitis are the most frequent throat infections.
It is an infection occurring with redness in throat. It may occur due to flu or cold and also may be the sign of measles or rubella. Earache may accompany sore throat. Difficulty of swallowing, loss of appetite, redness of throat, mildly high fever, swelling of gland and stomachache are frequently seen symptoms. Treatment may not be necessary for mild throat infections however, if a bacterial infection occurs, antibiotic therapy may be necessary. For this reason, children should be examined by the physician in case of sore throat.
Tonsillitis is a disease that high fever and vomiting-nausea can be observed with infection of tonsil and excessive sore throat. If the child has frequently tonsillitis, and it affects general health condition and growth retardation and failure to thrive occur, tonsillectomy may be recommended.
Pharyngitis is the inflammation of throat area called pharynx. Acute pharyngitis originates from virus or bacteria. Severe sore throat, burn of throat, swallowing difficulty, high fever are observed. Tonsillitis is a type of pharyngitis that inflammation is mostly seen in tonsil and inflammatory membrane covers the tonsils.
