Vast portion of dermatology patients is comprised of hair diseases. The most common hair diseases are hair losses.
Hair loss is most evident during combing and washing. It is normal that 50-100 hairs are lost per day. Losses over this number are not normal and should be evaluated by a dermatologist.
The factors causing hair losses
• Fiery diseases,
• Thyroid diseases,
• Iron deficiency,
• Unhealthy diet and improper diet programs
• Cancer drugs (chemotherapy)
• Tuberculosis drugs
• Gene pool
• Hormonal changes
• Frequent shampooing, combing and brushing of hairs
• Psychological factors and stress
• Non-suitable product use for hair care
• Frequent blow dry
• Tight tying of hairs
• Diseases occurring on hair skin
When you encounter hair loss problem, examination of dermatologist is very important for detecting medical cause. Through examination, whether there is a disease causing hair loss and what is the type of hair loss is determined and correct treatment is initiated. If hair loss does not arise from the factors such as disease and drugs, supplementary products such as nourishing cream, tonic, shampoos etc. can be recommended by dermatologist again.
Hair mesotherapy is a method in which various vitamin and minerals are prepared in mixtures in particular rates stimulating growth of hairs and this mixture is injected on the skin. It is applied on wholly hairy skin with 1 cm distance with the help of very thin needles. This procedure may be required once 2-3 weeks based on the requirement of a person and in 8-10 sessions. Generally after 3rd session, it is aimed to stop hair loss and stimulate new hair growth from follicles.
Prp Method In Hair
In PRP method, patient's own plasma is separated and is injected into hairy skin of the patient. Platelets are blood components incorporating in its structure growth factors providing repair of damaged tissues in our body. Application style and results are similar with hair mesotherapy and this is preferred in the patients to whom mesotherapy has not been applied. Especially breastfeeding postpartum period is a period in which hair loss is very dense. In this period, PRP method can be applied easily to the breastfeeding mothers. Application of hair mesotherapy or PRP application to especially men prior to hair transplantation is known to increase success rate in hair transplantation.
Genetıc Hair Loss
Hair loss resulting from genetic factors is the most common reason of hair loss. It is rare in women and thinning and rarefaction occurs on the top of the hair and no baldness occurs. Genetic hair loss is more common in men and this causes rarefaction, thinning and in the final phase baldness formation on the top of the hairs. This is called "androgenetic alopecia". This usually starts in 20's and loss increases with age. Lotions applied externally or drugs taken orally in young persons that loss is active may reduce loss but does not stop it completely.
Local Hair Loss (Sycosis Barbae)
Local hair loss (sycosis barbae) is frequently seen in children. In sycosis barbae disease, local hair loss occurs in a part of hairy skin. Generally circular opening is seen. Apart from hairy skin, local losses in bows, beard and moustache area and rarely body hair may be seen. Reason of the disease is considered as a reaction of the body to the stress. In case of thyroid disease and anaemia, sycosis barbae may be seen. Sycosis barbae does not usually cause permanent hair loss but its treatment may last longer. Cortisone supplementation can be performed on the hairless area as well as use of creams and lotions providing triggering of hair follicles in the treatment.
Hair transplantation can be performed for treatment in periods where hair loss becomes rare. With this method, hair roots taken from neck section where no hair is lost with are applied to lost areas.
Hair transplantation performed in early period in hair losses in men is not recommended since hair loss process may last for years, new bald areas may occur after hair transplantation and it may require a new surgical operation. If you have a genetic type hair loss, injection methods such as lotion, mesotherapy or PRP will be more suitable in early periods. Hair transplantation should be considered when loss becomes rare and bald areas start to show up.
DANDRUFF IN HAIR
Dandruff is a flaking hair loss of head skin. Skin becomes rough as flakes, breaks and mixes with hair. Small white particles can be seen in hair and they may fall on the shoulders. Dandruff is not contagious. Dead skin cells in case of flaking are removed from skin every day. Presence of hair on your head prevents getting lost of these flakes without being noticed. That is why they accumulate and are broken in visible parts. Transformation rate of cells on the skin depends on several internal and external factors. Sunburn (peeling shaped) speeds up this transformation. Inflammatory diseases of skin (dermatitis), distress and sorrow can cause an effect like sun burn. Reaction of the skin against these factors is different. Reason of dandruff may be seborrhoea or seborrheic dermatitis (dermatitis occurred on an areas with excessive fat secretion such as ears, nose, bows, lashes, chest, shoulders) If there is inflammation on the head skin or it becomes diluted, it should be consulted to the doctor for the treatment of this. Since dermatitis formation tendency is inherited with heredity, it does not prevent emergence of this situation.
Presence of dandruff is an indicator that head skin is in sensitive period. Hair skin should be triggered and should be avoided from the things that will lead to oversensitization. Therefore, vigorous brushing and combing and breaking flakes one by one by your fingers worsen the situation.
Hair should be washed with a shampoo every 2-3 days. Medicated shampoo should not be used. Antiseptic substance inside of it may irritate the head skin and worsen the condition. Hair should not be washed more than needed (more than one time) and shampoo should not be kept waited on hair more than 1 minute and it should not be massaged and brushed with force and should not be combed harshly. If you have seborrheic dermatitis, the doctor may recommend anti-inflammatory steroid creams or lotions.
